about paula lewis

I fell in love with photography when my father returned from a business trip to Japan in 1973 bringing me the gift of a Nikomat SLR camera (what was to become Nikon).  At once photography became my passion, and has since enriched my life, opening doors to exotic places, allowing me to meet interesting people, and capturing images of the things that catch my interest and stir my emotions.

For many years professionally, I shot in medium format, using Hasselblad  equipment for their superior quality. In 2004 I switched to digital almost exclusively because the technology, quality and artistic opportunities, met or exceeded medium format, and I now use Canon equipment. The darkroom has moved to the computer. Digital capture allows me to follow an image and control output from beginning to end, making sure the final product meets my expectations and vision exactly.

I have never specialized in only one type of photography. The world offers too much, there are too many beautiful, interesting and important moments and subjects to limit myself to any one category. Whether it is being part of a couples wedding, sharing in their love and joy of one another, the smile of a child, a seniors achievement or a glorious sunset I want to hold on to the moment.

From the northern slopes of Alaska covering the construction of the Alaskan Pipeline, to the shores of Hawaii, from Vatican City to New York City, I have been using my talent and expertise to capture the very essence of place and person. As a Bay Area California photographer for twenty years before relocating to Idaho, my repertoire includes nature, portrait, wedding, science, commercial, and event photography. I have received many awards for my work.

My friendly, relaxed personal style generates a feeling of warmth and intimacy, which puts my clients at ease. I am available for assignments in Idaho, North America, and International.
